The return to “normal” continued on 5th June as we opened the doors of the beautiful Lanark Memorial Hall to our first “Cally” since 2019.
In true Scottish fashion, the audience were loud and proud from the time the first athletes stepped onstage and the standard of competitor was second to none. The results were…..
A tough battle to open the show where first place was contested by the big and lean Alex and the notably smaller, but incredibly shaped Matthew who had a structure to die for. Matthew took the win with both men needing nothing but a touch more condition for the finals. Third place was taken by Daniel with a heavily muscled and well balanced physique that just needed to be harder to push the other two today.

A close battle of polar opposite physiques with Kenny being bigger and fuller and Lee being harder and more aesthetic. In the end, Kenny was just a little too off the mark condition wise to tip the balance today and an emotional Lee took the title to the roars of his huge fan club in the crowd.

Like the last class, this was fought out between the rock hard Marshall and a bigger, fuller Neil. On this occasion though, Neil was hard enough for the necessary detail to be visible on his physique and with a better upper/lower balance took the decision. Marshall has an incredible physique with particularly strong legs and now just needs more muscle in the upper body to complete the picture.

Another good battle for the top spot with the leaner Steph clinching the win over the slightly shapelier Jane who just needs to nail her condition to be pretty hard to beat at this level. Suzanne took third and needed a little more muscle fullness in the upper body and a touch more condition to push the first two today.

A strong class of Novices followed, with the tall and cut Ross taking a close win as he was just a little too much in terms of size and condition for runner up William who in all honesty had the superior physique but was just a little too far off condition for it to be effectively rewarded by the judges. Both men should feature strongly at the finals if they accept their invitations and Ross improves his posing and William his conditioning. Lewis took third with a really well balanced, cut and aesthetically pleasing physique which he posed well. He just needs to add more muscle overall, as does Tom who took fourth in great condition but just a little too light to move up the placings today.

Both ladies in the open class looked great with well balanced, ideally shaped figures with Hanna just having the edge in terms of both development and conditioning. Both were deserving of a finals invitation and will feature strongly there.

A strong Classic Physique division took the stage next, with Grevon being a standout winner with the perfect balance of the shape and muscularity sought after in this division. A little more upper body to match his legs would make him very hard to beat at any level in this class. Junior winner Matthew took runner up spot with the absolutely perfect shape and structure for this class with just a little more size and detail needed to topple Grevon today which is understandable given his relatively young age. Nick took third with one of the best physiques he has ever bought to the stage with muscle thickness and conditioning in abundance and a real “bodybuilders bodybuilder” look which unfortunately does not feature the aesthetic qualities required to place higher in this class today. Hasan and Abhinav picked up their battle from 2 weeks previously with both looking improved and more confident in their second showing. Hasan once again performed the single best posing routine of the days contest, bringing the house down with his perfectly executed performance.

Barbara was the lone challenger for this title, but one of the standout athletes of the day with a beautifully developed, balanced and hard conditioned physique that she posed near perfectly and would be capable of challenging in any open class with.

3 – Kim Valente (Aldershot)
The Bodybuilding division was an entirely different story for Kim as she dominated with her significant muscle size and shape. If she can get harder for the finals she will be one to watch for sure. A best ever Pauline was second, with an incredibly well balanced physique in great shape.

Heavily muscled in great condition and well presented, Peter would have seen off most challengers in this class and is capable of success at the highest level in his class.

Again, although alone in his class Sam would have featured strongly in any line up with a well-muscled and balanced physique.
1 – Sam Flint (Dundee)
Without a doubt the toughest class of the day in terms of picking between three quality physiques who all had their own strengths and weaknesses and were very evenly matched and ended up a single point apart from each other once the judges scores had been tallied. A tall, wide Jon eventually took a close win with incredible shoulders and quads with good condition and a tiny waist. Grevon in second boasted great quads and a lovely shape but not quite enough muscle in the upper body to tip the result his way today. Nick was desperately unlucky to land in third with his thick, rugged and ripped physique which he posed well. In reality, any one of these three could have won the class with no complaints and could easily be the top three at the finals in this order or any other.

As the class winners lined up, it soon became apparent that Peter (short class) and Jon (tall class) just had too much in terms of muscle and condition for the others to challenge them as impressive as each class winner was. In a very closely matched battle, Jon took the title by 4 votes to 2 from the judges but both men were deemed good enough to go again on the Worlds stage 3 weeks later.
Jonathan Dunn (Morecambe)
A tight class with all three men being very closely matched and all coming from the same gym where no doubt they have pushed each other hard in the lead up to the contest. Euan was the most complete in terms of development, shape and condition with Adrian the bigger and harder when compared to the more aesthetic Sean in the battle for the next two places.

Both ladies were well shaped and presented, with Kirstyn taking the win by virtue of her tighter conditioning and slightly more advanced muscle development.

Another strong battle for the winners spot between Alex and Graham who were both well muscled and in great condition. Alex’s superior shape was the deciding factor today and cinched the title for him. Lee gave it his all in third but needs both more muscle and condition to challenge harder in future.

Monika was a clear winner with the muscle, shape and condition to match the class criteria near perfectly. Sarah and Laurie fought hard for second and were quite evenly matched with good muscularity and condition. Sarah took the nod with her superior shape. Dana was lean and well balanced and with a little more muscle and some attention to her tanning will be cracking the finals qualifying places in no time. The remaining three ladies fought hard for fifth place, with all needing to be leaner but with Jennifer having the best balance of muscle and shape with Shoma needing more muscle and Dionne possibly more suited to figure shape wise if she can add a little more muscle.

Monika then took the Overall bikini over masters winner Kirstyn.

Izaak was a clear winner in the first of the open divisions, ticking all of the required boxes for size, shape, condition and presentation. Oliver had a great physique and was a worthy runner up but lacked the condition needed to push the winner today. Anthony and Hashim went head to head for third with Anthony being better developed by Hashim having the superior shape. In the end, Anthony got the nod by the narrowest of margins. Jack took fifth and was the lightest muscled of the class, although in great shape. More size is required for future progression.

The final class was dominated by Rob, who had the right size, shape and condition to be untouchable today. Wallace gave him a run for his money though and as a former 2 time Caledonian Champ did not go down without a fight. Wallace will always feature strongly in any lineup he enters with his near perfect look for the class. Alex was very impressive in third and also boasts a very well shaped and conditioned physique and was every bit worthy of his finals invite. Fourth was Ross who had a decent physique and held his own in a great lineup but wasn’t quite aesthetically striking enough to push the top 3 and Tom in fifth who again held his own and was in great shape.

The four class winners lined up to close the show with the Mens Physique Overall which was taken by tall class winner Rob by unanimous vote from the judges.
